ARROWSMITH LODGE

Arrowsmith Lodge is more than just another lodge…

Extensive bifold windows along the lounge open onto the front deck, so without even stepping outside you are drawn into nature. A more private deck at the back offers guests the choice of a secluded spa pool or BBQ area. Three bedrooms with adjoining bathrooms allow for a variety of sleeping arrangements. The lodge boasts top of the line furnishings including a leather lounge suite, 42 inch television and Sky TV.
Arrowsmith Lodge sleeps 10 with a selection of high quality bunk beds, linen and bedding provided and there is a private spa pool on the rear deck. When staying here, your party will have exclusive use of the lodge for your stay.

Why Bunks?

Because the building was originally the shearers’ quarters, the sleeping areas are not huge.
However clever design has resulted in bedrooms that are not only functional, but extremely comfortable.
The beds are not your standard bunk beds, being wider than usual and featuring top quality mattresses, linen and bedding. The first two bedrooms feature a set of single bunk beds each (sleeping two persons each room), while the third bedroom sleeps eight persons in four sets of single bunk beds. You will be pleasantly surprised by how comfortable these beds are and the adjoining spacious, modern bathrooms feature high quality showers, basins, WCs, heated towel rails and heat lamps.

Catering

Arrowsmith Lodge is 30km away from the nearest settlement of Mt Somers so all food requirements should be taken in. Only 45 minutes drive away, Methven has a great array of cafes, restaurants and retail shops, should civilisation beckon!

BACKCOUNTRY HUTS

Wildman Hut and Top Hut both accessed via the Station 4WD tracks

Unfortuntately the 4WD tracks are inaccessible due to recent flooding.
We will update this page when this changes.

4WD tracks

Over the summer months The Arrowsmith 4WD track is open for use, with a 40km round track that takes in the spectacular views over the Cameron Valley and the Arrowsmith Range. You then meander your way over the saddle into the Ashburton Headwaters, stopping at the old musterers’ hut on the way for a rest and a brew of billy tea. The track then follows the Ashburton River with its mighty rapids and steep ravines down around the Ribbonwood Hill and back into the fertile flats of home. The track is bulldozed after winter every year but great care should always be taken while driving on this track, a good four wheel drive truck with mud tyres and an experienced driver is a must.
It is recommended that two trucks drive together, should one get stuck.

The Wildman Hut ( Arrowsmith Station Private Hut)

Located on the true left of the Ashburton River on the flat where the 4×4 track meets the valley floor. In clear conditions, this hut can be seen from the track higher up the hill as you are descending the steeper part of the track. The Wildman Hut which sleeps 6 people, has all cooking utensils, cutlery and plates provided but visitors are asked to bring a bag of firewood (cut up small) if they wish to use the wood stove.

The Top Ashburton DOC Hut

Accessing this hut is a 15 minute drive, or a 45 minute walk further up the valley over the Ashburton River (true right). This hut sleeps 8, and has a large open fire. Visitors must bring their own firewood, cooking and eating utensils. A 3/4 hour walk up river will bring you to the head of the Ashburton valley.

The farm track will not be open during wet weather or snow and care must be taken if crossing the Ashburton River as rain can cause the rivers to flood quickly making them unpassable.

To arrange access to the Huts and an update on track conditions, you will need to phone the Farm Manager on (03) 303 9090.
Fee of $25 per vehicle paid by arrangement. Click here for our contact details.
